Lifetime Equine Ambitions Achieved in 2016

14 Feb 2017

Vicky and Indian King II - aka Bugsy riding their dressage test

2016 has truly been a great season for me and I cannot thank Mole Country Stores enough for supporting me and my horses – it has been invaluable and I wouldn't have been able to reach half my goals without them.

I was lucky enough to gain the lovely Hannas Melody for the second part of the eventing season. He is a part bred Connemara and owned by my friend Charmay who is pregnant. Milo as he is known is a real sweetheart, he has been placed at nearly all his events and gave me my first horse trials win of the season at Llanymynech in Wales.

My eventing continued with my special horse Indian King II. We competed at my first international CIC1* at Aske international. Trotting down the centre line was very special in my top hat and tails. The showjumping was superb and we just rolled a pole. My inexperience at this level let us down slightly on the cross country as I jumped the wrong side of the flag and didn’t realise, so managed to eliminate myself.

I was so pleased with Bugsy and it has made me very determined to train hard over the winter and aim him at some more international competitions next season. We certainly didn’t let ourselves down and it is a big achievement that has been on my ambitions list since we started out together seven years ago.

HOYS Champion

After having the most fantastic summer I was delighted to end my season with some amazing news. I was Champion at the Horse of the Year show 2016. I was riding the Sankey family owned ‘Life of Riley’ who not only won his section of the Coloured Horse and Pony of the Year, but also went on to take the overall championship. To win at HOYS has always been my childhood dream. Over the years I have been placed second five times, so to finally win is certainly a huge lifetime ambition achieved.

Riley is produced at home by his owner Hayley and I am so lucky to ride him at shows. He looked on absolute top form at HOYS. We put him onto TopSpec  balancer this season and his condition and topline has really improved. Riley was super shiny under the spotlight as I trotted down the centre line.

Returning to work the next day came as a massive shock to my system but having the students waiting in the car park for me to arrive was amazing news travels fast and they had followed my success on social media over the weekend.

It’s now time to give the horses a short holiday before beginning a winter of training and planning for 2017. This year has been a whirlwind of amazing experiences and I can’t thank everyone who has supported me enough.

Until next time,

Vicky
