The Healing Properties of Milk

1 Jan 2017

Praise for the Healing Properties of Milk

As rugby fans welcomed the return of the Six Nations competition and cheered on English, Welsh and Scottish victories, the milk industry was being lauded for helping one player return from injury.

England prop Joe Marler suffered a broken leg just three weeks before the clash with France on 4 February. According to Marler, he credited his fast recovery to drinking two pints of “full cream” milk a day.

“Your mum or whoever says milk is really good for you and you don’t really believe it until you really need it because you’ve got a broken leg, apparently, so I just drank loads of that,” Marler told The Telegraph.

“There’s lots of calcium in milk, so that helps with the bones. And teeth. That’s not a new thing, it’s been around for thousands of years,” he continued. “I started drinking two pints of milk a day, I think it’s something I’ll keep doing because it’s really tasty.”

To help honour Marler and thank him for his boost to the UK dairy industry, a Norfolk dairy farmer presented the player a bottle of her herd’s milk before the Six Nations’ match at Twickenham stadium. Jo Burroughs, who operates a family farm near Lowestoft, gave Marler the freshly bottled raw milk.

“I’m just so pleased someone has finally said something good about the dairy industry. It feels like everyone wants to slam what agriculture produces, but milk is the most natural food you can have,” Burroughs said after the presentation. “He said, ‘I’m not sure I’ve tried raw milk before, but I’ll give it a go as I’ve heard it’s got all the goodness in it. This is the proper stuff.’”

Mole Country Store takes pride in supporting the dairy industry and all the farmers who produce the UK’s great tasting milk.
